Death Of Michael Jackson Leads To More Spam And Scam Emails

Less than 24 hours since the death of pop superstar Michael Jackson and I have already received my first email scam that references both his name and death in an effort to entice me into helping someone move his ‘hidden millions.’

Its a typical advance fee email scam, the sort that would require me to pay fees to attorneys to cover their costs in getting his millions into my account.

Of course scam emails are not the only byproduct of Michael Jackson’s death – spam is likely to increase too.

In fact, Sophos has already reported as much, saying that web users have reported receiving emails that claim to contain ‘vital information’ about his death.

The article on the Sophos website says that whilst the emails are clear of any viruses or Trojans, and do not link to any other sites, they could be used to to harvest the email addresses of anyone who replies.

Once harvested, these email addresses could potentially be used for further spam attacks or even identity theft.
