Department Of Justice Email Scam

Scams

This is a heads up about an email currently doing the rounds and arriving in a great many inboxes right now.

Entitled “Dear Citizen”, it would appear to come from The Department of Justice and looks quite official. It may even seem to detail a complaint from someone and contain a case number. You should not that the DOJ would never send such information via email.

This email is a scam because it actually contains a malicious piece of code that can be activated simply by opening the message, dropping a keystroke logger onto your system.

Should you activate this keylogger then you are opening up your computer and all the files on it to anyone who chooses to access it and all your files and personal information will therefore be at risk.

With emails the following should always apply : never open an email unless it is from a trusted and well known source, scan emails with a virus checker before opening and never open attachments unless you are expecting them.
