Family Considers Suing Microsoft Over Burned Out Xbox

Hoax Or Not?

It’s truth or hoax time :

Firefighters in Michigan believe a house fire in Clio last month may have been caused by an overheating Xbox.

The apartment in question, which is above a cafe run by the inhabitants, does not appear to be fully covered by insurance - the policy only covers the business and none of their personal effects.

Local firefighters said that the console had been left on for as long as four days and may possibly have had a notebook blocking it’s air vents.

Additionally, the first generation Xbox was being powered by a cord which had originally been recalled by Microsoft in 2003.

After losing all their worldly possessions the family said that they had considered suing Microsoft for the fire.

However, they were put off by the fact that they cannot afford the legal fees and also the possibility that they may not win.

(Sounds like they chose wisely!)

As the fire department says, electronic devices should not be left on or left unattended for long periods of time.

Jim Harmes,  Grand Blanc Fire Chief, said that consoles and laptop computers can generate a lot of heat, creating a fire risk.

Tellingly, he also said -

“If you’re not using it, turn it off.”

So, was the above story true, or is it a figment of my imagination?

TRUTH or HOAX?

What do you think?

I can believe the fire is real but not that these people could contemplate suing MS.

I therefore have to say hoax.

PS thanks for doing this again, it is fun/
