Fear, Inspiration & Writing (Not Necessarily In That Order)

in Misc. & Off Topic

For those of you who haven’t been long-term readers of this blog, I like to to try and write a couple of posts every day.

Just recently that hasn’t been happening.

Why?

Because I’ve completely lost my inspiration and motivation to write.

Not because I don’t know what to say, or how to say it. Heck, I’ve got over 100 posts saved in draft format!

Instead, it’s because I have to fly in a few weeks from now.

I’m off to see my parents who emmigrated over 18 months ago.

I should be excited to go to the place in the video below (my parents live in the hills just above the town) but I’m not.

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video

You see, I’m scared of flying. Very scared.

I haven’t flown since 2001 and would choose to never do so again if I wasn’t off to see my family.

I’m not happy at the thought of getting on a plane. It dominates my thoughts and prevents me from focusing on what I’m doing here.

Just thought I’d let you know what’s going on. Hopefully I will get over myself soon and return to normal.

Or, maybe I’m just crazy?

It sure looks beautiful there. Was it worth braving a plane for?

Oh it was certainly was Dionne, not only because I got to see my parents again, but because it is an amazing country too.

You’re back! Sent up a little prayer for you. How was your flight? Are you ever so glad to be back on solid ground? I was rooting for you to feel at ease during the to/from flights.

    :D

Thanks for your thoughts Pink Biz.
Outbound flight was fine, much better than I thought it would be. There were a couple of aborted landing attempts on the way back but I got through it ok.
And, yes, I am rather glad to be back on the ground!!!!!

It happens to everyone and especially me. What keeps me going is I love to write and am on a mission. I believe in what I write and I have true purpose in it. This blog also has true purpose – it is in that purpose you will find inspiration

What a beautiful place your parents live in!

And you’re not going crazy! Your concern is greater than average, but it is shared by many people.

Just focus on doing “normal” things like blogging (as normal as you can be during this stressful time for you) to keep your mind from wandering to your flight as much as possible. Visualize yourself being successful. Write your coping skills (deep breathing, relaxation, etc) on a card, carry it with you, and practice them as much as possible.

I know you will be successful, both going and coming back. Trust yourself!
