Security

Just in case you haven’t already heard, Mozilla’s Firefox 3 was released yesterday.

Mozilla have created a certain level of buzz by aiming for a new world record of downloads in a 24 hour period but I’m much more interested in the security aspects of the new browser.

After having spent a few hours surfing with the all new Firefox 3 I have to say that I am impressed so far -

There are several handy features including the ability to click on a site’s favicon to bring up a dialogue box full of useful information.

Should you be unfortunate enough to visit a site that poses a security risk, be it through malware, trojans, spyware or viruses, then a full page warning screen will be shown.

Add-ons and plugins are routinely checked and old or insecure versions are automatically disabled.

Web pages which are thought to be forgeries will not be displayed at all.

If you visit a site that has an invalid SSL certificate then this is clearly communicated to you.

Firefox integrates with your anti-virus software when downloading executables.

The new browser now plays nicely with Windows Vista’s parental controls.

Firefox 3 offers better protection against cross-site JSON data leaks.

And, if that is not enough, it’s also much quicker than it’s predecessor too!
