A fraud alert is one of the first things to sort out if you are, or believe you are, a victim of identity theft.
In the first instance a fraud report can stop an identity thief from opening new accounts or otherwise applying for credit in your name. Remembering to keep records of any correspondence or telephone calls, contact one of the following -

Capital House
25 Chapel Street
London
NW1 5DS
www.equifax.co.uk
Equifax - US
Equifax Credit Information Services, Inc
P.O. Box 740241
Atlanta, GA 30374
www.equifax.com
place a fraud alert on your file : Call 1-888-766-0008
order your credit report : Call 1-800-685-1111 to order by phone.
Experian - UK
Call : 0870 241 6212

Experian - US
P.O. Box 9532
Allen, TX 75013

Call : 1-888-397-3742
You only need to contact one of the above to place a fraud alert. Once placed, the credit reference agency is obliged to provide free credit reports to you. As ever, check through them religiously. You should be looking out not only for credit searches and unknown debts but also for changes to your personal details such as name and address.
After becoming an identity theft victim it is advisable to continue checking your credit reports often as some unauthorised transactions may not appear immediately.
