How To Contact The Credit Reference Agencies

Scams

If you believe that you may be at risk from fraud or identity theft then the very first thing you should do, perhaps after calling the police, is to get in touch with the Credit Reference agencies.

The sooner you make contact with them, the quicker you can take action to prevent id theft or fraud from occurring, or minimise the damage if you have already become a victim.

You can also obtain a credit report from these agencies and I would recommend doing so at least yearly so that you can scan for anything unexpected and can then act appropriately should there be unknown entries on your report. One report per year is available from the U.S. credit agencies for free. In the U.K. you will have to pay a small fee.

The 2 main credit reference agencies are Equifax and Experian.
