Regardless of how many precautions you take, many people are still at risk of identity theft. A scammer who is proficient at identity theft has many methods of acquiring your personal information -
stealing personal information from colleagues at their place of work
hacking personal files on a computer, either on the victims computer directly or via the internet
bribery - paying unscrupulous people to divulge your personal details
smooth talking the individual so that they reveal information themselves
Intercepting post, either by taking it from the postman directly, having it redirected elsewhere or by searching through dustbins
applying for your credit report and having it sent to their address
taking a victim’s bank or credit card details by skimming it or by using a lebanese loop or other device
mugging or burglary
phishing the details directly through email, phone or a website
