Back at the beginning of August I wrote about the Medison Celebrity, a laptop for the incredible price of just $150.
My conclusion was that the offer was just a publicity stunt for the company owner, Valdi Ivancic, an ex-bankrupt with political aspirations in Sweden.
Since then, first deliveries of the hitherto AWOL laptop were scheduled to begin on August 15th.
Later, that was revised and a new date of August 31st was given. Now it is October 9th and there are still no signs of buyers ever receiving their laptop.
However, Medison did release a small, and I really do mean small, snippet of news on their site yesterday -

Medison buying Brazilian Company
Medison is buying a Brazilian company.
“The company has 40 employees and has a logistic structure that we’ve been looking for”, says Valdi Ivancic. [more to come]
Considering the fact that Valdi Ivancic has previously stated that the company has no money, the fact that they are able to buy a modest company in Brazil comes as quite a surprise. Of course, your guess is as good as mine as to which company Medison has bought because no further details are given.
With the laptop manufactured in Asia, the news that Medison are utilising a company in Brazil for logistics is also surprising.
After all, did they not say that shipping would cost up to a maximum of $30 to Europe?
Conclusion
The amazing deal of a laptop for a mere $150 still looks like a dream.
Based on this most recent news, plus what has gone before, it is my opinion that it will never happen.
I can only guess what Valdi Ivancic’s motivations are but what is certain is that there are going to be a lot of disgruntled customers – if the laptop does ever ship it will be much later than anyone was led to believe.
In the meantime, how about a t18 laptop from Ericsson?
