At the end of yesterday’s post I said I would look into why some people believe that the Apollo 11 moon landing of 1969 may have been a conspiracy or hoax.
The first question that needs to be asked, though, is whether there was a motive for the U.S. government to fake the moon landing in the first place.
Those who believe that Neil Armstrong really did set foot on the moon probably don’t think so but the conspiracy theorists think otherwise.
In the 1960s America had a great rivalry with the Soviet Union and the latter were winning the space race by a country mile.
Some of the landmarks they had reached included -
- Launching the first animal into space
- Putting the first man into space
- Sending the first female cosmonaut into space (more on that one later)
- Being the first nation to launch 3 people into space
How damaging must that have been to American pride at a time when they were denouncing the inferior political ideology of Communism that the Soviets were practising?
Also, there was the sentiment of Kennedy’s speech to live up to as well and the Americans would not want to appear to have been thwarted in their attempts to fulfill his dream.
Hopefully, then, you can see why the U.S. may have wanted to fake a moon landing.
That in itself doesn’t mean that they did, but could they have done so if they had wanted to?

Sure the moon landing could have been faked for many reasons but logistically it would have been impossible to orchestrate and keep quiet, especially for this number of years.
I agree with that, to a degree, and contemplate it in the next post..
