I’ve just been sent a very interesting picture of The Statue of Liberty -
Apparently, this is a human form of The Statue of Liberty, created by 1,800 soldiers, all dressed in army uniform.
The picture was taken in 1918 as part of a marketing campaign for World War I war bonds, as explained by the Iowa National Guard -
“On a stifling July day in 1918, 18,000 officers and soldiers posed as Lady Liberty on the parade [drill] grounds at Camp Dodge.” [This area was west of Baker St. and is currently the area around building S34 and to the west.] “According to a July 3, 1986, story in the Fort Dodge Messenger, many men fainted-they were dressed in woolen uniforms-as the temperature neared 105 degrees Farenheit. The photo, taken from the top of a specially constructed tower by a Chicago photography studio, Mole & Thomas, was intended to help promote the sale of war bonds but was never used.” (Grover 1987)

It’s quite obviously not the real deal, as it is a man, but is it actually a statue made from stone?
You cannot see it in the photo but the flame is real.
You can find this particular statue in the avenue des Champs-Elysees in France which was, of course, the country that gave the genuine Statue of Liberty to New York in the first place.
It’s around 7ft tall, sits on a pedestal and is a good colour match to the original.
But is it real???

Is it a human dressed like a statue…I recently saw a candid camera show when one such statue suddenly moved!!!
You are absolutely right, it is a human posing as a statue, complete with all over body paint in order to get the right colour.
